Fitness groups that colonise a park at dawn

Before most of the city has properly woken, small groups gather in local parks for outdoor training sessions, cones and mats spread across the grass while an instructor calls out sets to a circle of bleary but determined participants. Passing dog walkers sometimes pause to watch, half amused and half impressed by the sheer discipline on display so early.
These sessions have become such a fixture in certain parks that regular walkers plan their route around them, either joining in occasionally or simply weaving past a familiar scene that repeats, rain or shine, several mornings a week. Some groups have run in exactly the same spot for years, becoming as much a fixture of the park as its trees.
The appeal seems to lie partly in the setting itself, exercising outdoors as the sky lightens rather than inside a gym, a small daily ritual that locals who commit to it often describe as the best part of their entire day. Newcomers who join expecting a casual stroll are often surprised by just how serious the whole session actually turns out to be.
