Bike lanes and riding the CBD with confidence
Launch library · evergreen read

Dedicated bike lanes now thread through much of the central city, though their quality varies considerably from a fully separated path to little more than a painted line squeezed between parked cars and moving traffic. Some stretches offer a genuine barrier from traffic, while others rely purely on paint and the goodwill of passing drivers to stay safe.
Confident cycling here comes less from any formal training than from simple repetition, learning which streets offer genuine protection and which ones demand a rider stay especially alert to car doors and turning vehicles. Experienced riders tend to treat parked cars with real caution, watching for doors swinging open without warning at any moment.
New riders often find the first few weeks the hardest, gradually building the instinct for which lanes to trust completely and which ones require a bit more caution, until the whole network eventually starts to feel familiar rather than daunting. Even confident cyclists admit certain intersections still demand extra attention, regardless of how many years they have spent riding through the city.
